WhatsApp Business API for businesses in Tanzania
Talk to customers on the app they already use every day. DARSMS provides the official WhatsApp Business API, delivered in partnership with MOBISHASTRA TANZANIA PVT LTD, with a verified business profile, approved message templates, a shared team inbox and API access for automated notifications.
WhatsApp Business API vs the WhatsApp Business app
| Feature | WhatsApp Business app | WhatsApp Business API |
|---|---|---|
| Who it is for | Small businesses managing chats on one phone | Businesses that need automation, integration or several agents |
| Users on one number | One phone plus a few linked devices | Multiple agents through a shared team inbox |
| Automation | Basic greeting and away messages | Chatbots and messages triggered from your own systems |
| Integration | None | API access to connect your CRM, website, store or ERP |
| Business-initiated messages | Manual broadcast lists | Meta-approved templates sent at scale to opted-in customers |
| Verification | Not available | Meta business verification and optional green tick application |
Regular personal WhatsApp is not meant for business messaging. Sending bulk messages from a personal or app account risks your number being restricted.

WhatsApp and SMS work best together
WhatsApp is ideal for rich, two-way conversations with customers who have opted in. Bulk SMS still reaches every phone, including people without WhatsApp or mobile data, which makes it the dependable channel for OTPs, payment reminders and urgent alerts. DARSMS offers both, so you can use each channel where it performs best. Read our comparison of WhatsApp Business API and bulk SMS.
WhatsApp Business API FAQ
What is the WhatsApp Business API?
It is Meta's official way for medium and large businesses to use WhatsApp at scale. Instead of a phone app, it connects your WhatsApp number to software such as a team inbox, chatbot or your own systems.
How is it different from the WhatsApp Business app?
The free WhatsApp Business app runs on a phone and suits small teams sending messages manually. The API supports many agents on one number, automation, integration with your software and approved templates for business-initiated messages.
How is WhatsApp Business API priced?
There is a one-time setup and verification fee, a platform subscription, and per-conversation charges set by Meta that depend on the conversation type. See the WhatsApp API pricing page for current rates.
Can I use my existing WhatsApp number?
A number can be moved to the API, but it can then no longer be used in the regular WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app. Many businesses use a new number for the API. We advise on the best option during onboarding.
Do customers need to opt in?
Yes. WhatsApp requires customers to agree to receive messages from your business before you send them business-initiated messages. Customers who message you first can be answered within the 24-hour service window.
Should I use WhatsApp or bulk SMS?
Use SMS when you need to reach everyone, including people without WhatsApp or data, and for OTPs and reminders. Use WhatsApp for rich content and two-way conversations with opted-in customers. Many businesses use both.
